30 year sentence for Beverly Allit

06 December 2007

PRESS RELEASE

BEVERLEY ALLITT - 30 YEAR SENTENCE

From: Paul Paxton, Stewarts Law, London

For and on behalf of Sue Phillips (now Laccohee), mother of Becky Phillips (who was murdered by Allitt) and Katie Phillips (who was left severely disabled by the so called Angel of Death).

Background

Solicitor, Paul Paxton, acted on behalf of the Phillips' in their successful claim for compensation damages. Today in the High Court a 30 year "minimum term" was set.

On behalf of the family Paul Paxton said as follows:-

"This has been an emotionally difficult time for the family, inevitably forcing them to relive the nightmare that befell them at Grantham Hospital.

The family are very disappointed that a "whole life" sentence was not imposed. The situation is made worse by the fact that the probation service had advised that the Trial Judge had recommended a 40, and not the 30 year, minimum sentence, as was confirmed today. They find it surprising that, as described in court today, anyone with a "sadistic personality" and a "psychopath" should ever be up for release.

It is however strongly believed and expected that Allitt will never be released. It is harder to think of a greater evil than a Paediatric Nurse deliberately killing her young charges. This is an evil for which her rehabilitation and return to the community should not be contemplated. The family believe that she will always remain a threat and they will campaign vigorously to keep her under lock and key to her dying day".
